Ben Adds A Starry Touch To Fete [This Is Kent - 16/07/10]
FORMER X Factor finalist Ben Mills was in the spotlight again on Saturday – but for very different reasons.
On July 11 last year he married his partner Melissa, and on their first wedding anniversary on Sunday Ben generously gave up his time to open the Blean Preschool fete.
He remained at the packed event on the memorial field for around an hour, meeting fans, signing autographs and enjoying some of the attractions.
These included the Jazz Omnibus band, a dog show organised by the Friends of Blean Church, cream teas, a visit by Canterbury firefighters, a tug o' war and children's races, all helping to raise money for the school, although organiser Tamsin Parry had deliberately kept prices low so youngsters could enjoy traditional fete fun.
Faversham off-road car club also thrilled visitors with a display of their remote control skills.
The event made a profit of £1,500 which will be split between Blean Preschool and the Raise the Roof project, which is working to refurbish or rebuild Blean Village Hall.
Mrs Parry said: " It was a very traditional fete and I would like to thank all the volunteers from the preschool and the community who came out in force to make it a lovely day."
